  1. I’m sorry but the presence of the word “rightly” in “As Conservatives, we rightly believe that the private sector can often do a better job than the public sector at delivering the outcomes that people want.” turned me off reading much further.

If there has been a recent upturn in the number of academics and public sector employees to the left, then might it not be due to the conservative party policies themselves rather than attitude/PR?

Despite thinking that Margaret Thatcher made an excellent prime minister, I feel like I’m further than I’ve ever been from voting conservative.

    1. This was an article written on a Conservative website for a 99% Conservative audience – with respect, non-Conservatives such as yourself were not the primary audience – though I’m glad you got that far. 🙂 You would find similarly partisan language on Lib Dem Voice or Labour List.

In the article I do propose some specific policies – notably at least inflationary increases in public sector pay – but the bulk of the article is not about PR, but about dismantling legal, institutional and structural features which I see as causing the shift.

    2. P.S. Not that I disagree, but given what I (think I) know of your views, why do you think Margaret Thatcher made an excellent prime minister?
